Employee Spotlight - Cathy Bradbury
May's spotlight is on Cathy Bradbury. Cathy is a State Purchasing Officer who manages Sole Source Procurements for all institutions and has worked for the Chief Procurement Office for Higher Education for about two months. Prior to joining the Chief Procurement Office, she worked for the City Water, Light, and Power for the City of Springfield. Cathy has worked in public procurement for over 14 years but is new to State government since March 2019.
Tell us something about yourself that most of us don't know:
In my much younger days, I was a competitive Irish Step Dancer. For about 8 years, my life was consumed with practices and traveling the Midwest competing at traditional Gaelic Festivals known as a Feis. This of course, was way before Riverdance was popular.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Besides raising my four amazing children, my greatest achievement has been continuing my education as an adult. In 2017 I decided to enroll and work to complete my Bachelors Degree in Management. In July I will graduate Magna Cum Laude from Benedictine University.
What is one of the things on your bucket list?
To visit Germany during Oktoberfest.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A lawyer. I enjoy debating different topics.
What is the last book you read?
Leaders Eat Last by Simon Sinek. I have come to embrace his theory of teamwork and leadership. "Success is a team sport. Failure we can do alone. Success takes the help of others." - Simon Sinek
What is your favorite season (winter, spring, summer, or fall), and why?
My favorite season would be spring. I enjoy the outdoors and the longer hours of sunlight mean cooking on the grill, bonfires, and camping.
