Employee Spotlight - Bridget McHatton
January's spotlight is on Bridget McHatton. Bridget is a State Purchasing Officer assigned to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and has worked for the Chief Procurement Office for Higher Education for about two months. Bridget has prior experience with other Chief Procurement Offices totaling about 8 years and has worked in State Government for 12 years.
What was your first job or your most unusual job?
I worked as a chairside dental assistant after school while I was in High School.
What are your five favorite foods?
Greek food, dessert, popcorn, salads and coffee
What is the best perk you've had at a job?
I've had two jobs that shut the office down between Christmas and the New Year.
What is the best vacation you've ever had, and why?
We spent a week on the beach in South Carolina that was a great time. I had good quality time with my family, and I love spending time on the beach.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
I have three adult children that are all really good people.
What is one important skill every person should have?
Listening skills. It's the only way to understand another person's viewpoint.
What is one of the things on your bucket list?
I want to have an extended stay in Europe and have time to spend several weeks in each country.
If you could have dinner with someone who is alive or dead, who would it be and why?
Barack Obama. He would have interesting stories to tell and he's relatable.
Describe your pets:
We have a rescue dog named Kona who we love, but she makes it hard sometimes. We also have a cat named Louie who thinks he's a dog.
What is your favorite season (winter, spring, summer, fall), and why?
Summer. I like to be outside and like the long days.
