December's spotlight is on John Knittle

​State Purchasing Officer assigned to the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign who has worked for the State for 24 years. Before coming to the Chief Procurement Office, he worked at the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. He has been in State government for 24 years  and in public procurement for around 7 years.

Tell us something about yourself that most of us don't know:

I record music in a basement home studio with family and friends.

What was your first job or your most unusual job?

My most unusual job was working in the U of I Entomology Department dissecting corn root worms.

What are your five favorite foods?

In no particular order: Pizza, Sushi, Sourdough bread, Hot Dogs (Chicago style), Thai Curry (any style)

Name two things you consider yourself to be very good at:

Writing and being a dad

What is the best perk you've had at a job?

Free Diet Coke and the ability to take home day old muffins when I worked the night shift at SuperAmerica

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

My kids

If you could have dinner with someone who is alive or dead, who would it be and why?

Ben Franklin. Interesting career and life. Be a fun hangout.

Tell us about your pets:

One overweight dog named Winnie. An almost golden doodle - she weighs about 70 and could lose 15 to 20. If my youngest gets her way, we will have another dog soon.

What is the last book you read?

"The Last Argument of Kings" by Joe Abercrombie

What is your favorite season (winter, spring, summer, or fall), and why?

Spring. Warmth and growth.

Have you ever played a musical instrument? Which one?

I play guitar and drums well, and am mediocre on a number of others.
