Employee Spotlight - Nicole Krneta Rogers

​June’s spotlight is on Nicole Krneta Rogers. Nicole is a State Purchasing Officer assigned to Chicago State University, Governors State University, Northeastern Illinois University, and Northern Illinois University and has worked for the Chief Procurement Office for about 7 years. Prior to joining the Chief Procurement Office, she worked for the Executive Ethics Commission. Nicole has worked in State Government for almost 20 years.

Tell us something about you most of us don’t know.

I have been to 23 countries. I hope to visit more.

What was your first job or your most unusual job?

For two years, I worked in a small rural town in the southern prefecture of Kagoshima, Japan. I worked for the Board of Education and visited the local kindergarten, five elementary schools and junior high. The smallest elementary school had five students. I taught English and organized cultural events. I also held English classes for all ages at the community center.

What is the best vacation you’ve ever had, and why?

My best vacation was backpacking through Vietnam, because it was an amazing place with friendly people, great food and lovely scenery.

What is one important skill every person should have?

The one important skill every person should have is empathy.

What is the last book you read?

The last book I read was Silence: the Power of Quiet in a World Full of Noise by Thich Nhat Hanh. I highly recommend the book.

Have you ever played a musical instrument? Which one?

I can play the piano and Japanese drums (Taiko). I hope to learn the cello at some point.
